Welcome to our website!
This site was created to show our daily work
for the recognition of human rights and inclusion of people with
disabilities into the mainstream of society. It contains
information about the national assemblies' activities in Canada,
the USA and the Caribbean.
Our Mandate
Our Region is a network of 14 national
assemblies or organizations of disabled people and 1 associate
organization, established to promote the human rights of
disabled people through full participation, equalization of
opportunities and development.
Our Goals

Promote the human rights of disabled
persons;

Promote economic and social integration
of disabled persons;
-
Develop and support organizations of
disabled persons within our region and to share information
and knowledge with others at the world level.

A group of hecklers was able to drive a
person with disabilities from the Caribbean Cinemas on
Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 7:20 pm as the main feature
began.

We are pleased to release our latest
addition to the DPI NAC website: a guide for educating
the public about disability etiquette and the disability
rights movement. This booklet is entitled
“Equal Opportunities for All: Respecting the Rights of
Persons with Disabilities”.

Disabled Peoples' International (DPI) 1st
Deputy Chair for Human Rights and DPI North America and
the Caribbean Regional Chair, George Daniel, DPI Human
Rights Officer, Steven B. Estey and the DPI North
America and the Caribbean Regional Development Officer
(RDO), Leslie A. Emanuel joined DPI World Chair,
Wilfredo Guzman Jara and DPI Latin America RDO, Maria
Isabel Farias and other persons with disabilities from around the world at the Entry into
Force Celebration for the Convention on the Rights of
Persons with Disabilities and its Optional Protocol on
May 12, 2008 at the UN Headquarters. |

Paying electricity bills in Trinidad and
Tobago will become more affordable for low-income
earners thanks in part to the efforts of the Trinidad
and Tobago Chapter of Disabled Peoples' International.

Disabled Peoples' International (DPI) 1st
Deputy Chair for Human Rights and DPI North America and
the Caribbean Regional Chair, George Daniel attended a
Civil Society Hemispheric Forum entitled "Securing Our
Citizens' Future by Promoting Human Prosperity, Energy
Security and Environmental Sustainability" on May 1-2,
2008 in Miami, Florida hosted by the Organization of
American States (OAS) as a precursor to the V Summit of
the Americas to be held in Trinidad and Tobago from
April 17-19, 2009.

launch the Commonwealth Disabled Peoples' Forum (CDPF)
in London, United Kingdom from March 15-17, 2008.
